We have been involved in the Sorghum Industry and Breeding Sorghum Grain, Forage, and Sudangrass hybrids in the Texas Panhandle and around the world for over 40 years. During this time we have spent countless hours working with and getting input from Nutritionists, Feedlot owners, and Dairies discussing the issues they face and how to get more sorghum silage incorporated into their feeding rations. We then designed a breeding program targeted at addressing the issues. At MOJO Seed our goal is to work hand in hand with our customers and supply them with not only the most advanced genetics, but with the customer support they need to achieve their goals.
OPAL, our initial release in 2017, was developed over many years and environmental conditions to address the issue of ruminants not being able to utilize the energy and starch from the grain in sorghum silage to the same levels that corn grain was being utilized in silage rations. OPAL quickly became a leader in the industry for producers looking for the highest quality sorghum silage possible.
PEARL was released in 2021-22 seasons keeping the grain quality from OPAL, including the large grain size and ability to effectively utilize Kernel Processor technology to greatly improve starch utilization. PEARL also has improved seedling vigor, and an earlier maturity to help with harvest and double crop planting situations all while maintaining similar silage tonnage. PEARL has dominated the market since release and continues to find new markets, due to its earlier maturity, stronger White Sugarcane Aphid tolerance, and strong seedling vigor.
OPAL+DT was new for 2023 in a limited release and had a very high acceptance into the new "over the top grass herbicide trait market". OPAL+DT in the 2023 fields showed the same high standards of quality silage genetic traits found in PEARL, excellent tolerance to Sugar Cane ahids, and has even slightly earlier maturity, and most importantly incorporating and excellent results utilizing the "DoubleTeam - Sorghum Cropping Solutions trait for use with Adama's FirstAct herbicide".
We will continue striving for improvement on overall plant health, insect resistance, silage quality, starch utilization, grain protein, and energy levels normally not reached in a sorghum silage, and the incorporation of new technology breakthroughs when we see it approriate. These traits are the driving force in MOJO Breeding and product releases, and we believe the reason for aur sucess and our customers sucess. The utilization of starch and energy in sorghum we believe are crucial in allowing us to give our customers a water efficient option to growing corn silage. The larger seed which helps in kernel processing, the genetic background to help the kernels of grain break down in the silage pile, and grain containing increased protein levels differentiate MOJO Sorghum Silage Hybrids and provide a water efficient alternative of very high quality silage to corn silage
